Description and Role

WAI is a pioneering Norwegian bio-based carbon material technology development and production company. Our innovative solutions convert biogenic sources, such as forest residues and waste wood, into high value-adding carbon materials. We are committed to developing cutting-edge solutions that connect forestry with metallurgy and energy storage sectors, all the while supporting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

WAI is one of the few SMEs in the consortium. WAI will produce hard carbon derived from Norwegian forest residues as anode materials for sodium-ion batteries. Specifically, WAI participates in WP1, WP2, WP3, WP4, and WP6. WAI will help define commercial specifications and requirements of hard carbon and sodium-ion batteries in T1.2, support lab scale optimization of hard carbon production led by IFE in T2.3 and T3.5, and upscale hard carbon manufacturing in T4.1, finally support business plans development for commercialization of project results.
